Coreografia per una mostra&#8217;<\/em><\/a> curated by Laura Valente and Andrea Viliani, focuses on the <strong><em>performative matrix<\/em><\/strong> of his photographic practice, through a dialogue between antiquity and modernity, <strong>photography and dance<\/strong>; a dialogue between the act of shooting in the studio and the performance that takes place on the stage.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_104182\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-104182\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-104182\" src=\"https:\/\/www.designdiffusion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/2-02-IN-EVIDENZA-Photo01_PhillipPrioleau_1982_Copyright-Robert-Mapplethorpe-Foundation_Used-by-permission-1024x1017.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"993\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-104182\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Philip Prioleau, 1982 (Robert Mapplethorpe \u00a9 Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Three sections<\/strong>, intimately connected to each other \u2013 preceded by an <strong>Ouverture<\/strong> in the entrance hall where a feminine and a masculine figure (Patti Smith and Samuel Wagstaff Jr) glance at each other \u2013 define the rhythm of the exhibition and give the museum <strong>a theatre-like atmosphere<\/strong>. In the first section, <strong>the audience is introduced directly on the stage<\/strong> \u2013 among dancers, athletes, body-builders, and models \u2013 exploring the performance of the subject that is portrayed.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_104186\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-104186\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-104186\" src=\"https:\/\/www.designdiffusion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3-04Photo03_ThomasAndDovanna_1986_Copyright-Robert-Mapplethorpe-Foundation_Used-by-permission-809x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1266\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-104186\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Thomas and Dovanna, 1986 (Robert Mapplethorpe \u00a9 Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the second section, the audience is <strong>in the orchestra<\/strong>, observing the <strong>intriguing collective portrait of New York society<\/strong> and of the international jet set of the Seventies and Eighties, through an extraordinary personal diary of the life, affections, friendships, meetings, collaborations of Mapplethorpe.<\/p>\n<p>In the third section, a <strong>red carpet for dancers<\/strong> and a <strong>sequence of self-portraits<\/strong> of the artist dominate the scene, transforming the space into a real three-dimensional theatre, thanks to some of the most important international choreographers. The result is a dance between works and movements and a <strong>cognitive experience different<\/strong> from those we are used to.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_104188\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-104188\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-104188\" src=\"https:\/\/www.designdiffusion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/4-01Photocover_Phillip_1979_Copyright-Robert-Mapplethorpe-Foundation_Used-by-permission-1018x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1006\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-104188\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Philip, 1979 (Robert Mapplethorpe \u00a9 Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Two <strong>retro-scene<\/strong> spaces integrate this section: the <strong>(Un)Dressing room<\/strong>, a real dressing room where the performers warm up before the performance, which hosts some images that introduce us to the artist\u2019s vision, and the <strong>X(Dark) Room<\/strong> (forbidden to minors) where Mapplethorpe\u2019s <strong>most <em>secret and extreme<\/em> works<\/strong> of erotic subjects are exhibited.
