Venice Architecture Biennale will come back in May 2021, curated by<\/strong> Hashim Sarkis and titled \u201cHow will we live together?\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The 17th<\/sup> edition of Venice Architecture Biennale<\/a> will run from May 22 to November 21, 2021. This year\u2019s International Exhibition will include works by 112 participants from 46 countries, with more delegates from Africa, Latin America, and Asia.<\/p>\n

The Exhibition is organized into five \u201cscales\u201d (or themed areas), three exhibited in the Arsenal and two in the Central Pavilion: Among Diverse Beings, As New Households, As Emerging Communities, Across Borders, As One Planet.<\/p>\n

Architecture Biennale 2021<\/h3>\n

The 2021 edition also includes a series of non-competing participations. Stations + Co-Habitats <\/strong>presents research into the five scales with relative case studies developed by researchers from universities around the world (Architectural Association, American University of Beirut, The Bartlett, Columbia University, Cooper Union, ETH Zurich, Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development EiABC, ETSAM – Escuela T\u00e9cnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid, Harvard University, Hong Kong University, Iuav University of Venice, KIT Karlsruhe, KU Leuven, Rice University, and the Venice Lab, a consortium of research groups at MIT).<\/p>\n

In addition to this, there are other special participations such as Israeli artist Michal Rovner <\/strong>in the Central Pavilion; the special project by Studio Other Spaces<\/strong> (represented by Olafur Eliasson and Sebastian Behmann) presenting UN Assembly for the Future, featuring contributions by all participants. Moreover, the Gardens host \u201cHow will we play sport together?\u201d, an outdoor <\/strong>installation dedicated to sports. Lastly, a special event by Vuslat Foundation presents an installation by Giuseppe Penone at the Arsenal.<\/p>\n

Venice Biennale and Victoria & Albert Museum<\/h3>\n

For the fifth consecutive year, Venice Biennale and London\u2019s Victoria and Albert Museum present the Special Project at the Pavilion of Applied Arts<\/strong> (Arsenal, Sale d\u2019Armi A) titled Three British Mosques<\/strong>. In collaboration with architect Shahed Saleem, the exhibition looks at the often-undocumented do-it-yourself world of mosques adapted for this use.<\/p>\n

The Exhibition will also host How will we play together?, a contribution by 5 international architects dedicated to children\u2019s play at Forte Marghera and open to the public.<\/p>\n

National Participations<\/strong><\/h3>\n

For the 2021 edition, there will be 63 National Participations, including 4 countries taking part in the Architecture Biennale for the first time: Grenada, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Republic of Azerbaijan<\/strong>. The Italian Pavilion, at the Tese delle Vergini in the Arsenal, is curated by Alessandro Melis.<\/p>\n

During the Exhibition, 17 Collateral Events, promoted by national and international non-profit entities and institutions, will take place. Organized in various Venetian venues, they will enrich the pluralism of voices that characterizes the Exhibition.<\/p>\n

Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to <\/strong>Lina Bo Bardi<\/h3>\n

Hashim Sarkis proposed to give this well-deserved award to Lina Bo Bardi. \u201cHer career as a designer, editor, curator, and activist reminds us of the role of the architect as convener and importantly, as the builder of collective visions \u2013 stated Sarkis. Lina Bo Bardi also exemplifies the perseverance of the architect in difficult times characterized by wars, political strife, or immigration, and her ability to remain creative, generous, and optimistic throughout.\u201d<\/p>\n
