British artist and designer <a href=\"https:\/\/esdevlin.com\">Es Devlin<\/a> has collaborated with structural engineer Atelier One, environmental design consultant Atelier Ten, executive architect Veretec and creative agency Avantgarde.<\/p>\n<p>The pavilion is shaped like a giant 25-meter-high musical instrument; the cone-shaped structure is made of cross-laminated timber (CLT) to reduce its environmental impact.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>Discover also the<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/designdiffusion.com\/en\/2021\/11\/04\/the-italian-pavilion-at-expo-2020-dubai\/\">Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-159182 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.designdiffusion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/UK-PAVILION-EXPO-2020-ES-DEVLIN-4-_PH.-Alin-Constantin-Photography_Low.jpg\" alt=\"es-devlin-expo-dubai.jpg\" width=\"1701\" height=\"1134\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Upon entering the pavilion, each visitor is invited to donate a word written in English and Arabic; the words will help generate a &#8220;Collective Message&#8221; in real time, illuminating the 20-meter diameter fa\u00e7ade. The Message is generated thanks to an advanced machine learning algorithm, which creates an order in the messages.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-159241 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.designdiffusion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/padiglione-regno-unito-1.jpg\" alt=\"es-devlin-expo-dubai.jpg\" width=\"960\" height=\"691\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>A choral project that represents a country<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cAlgorithms are among us, they are an ever-growing part of our culture, their output is based on what they are trained on and who trains them. The pavilion is at once an expression of the ideal of a culturally diverse Britain that I grew up with, tempered with our growing awareness of the part algorithms play in shaping the future of our culture,\u201d explained Es Devlin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Within the pavilion, there will not be an exhibit. \u201cThe building\u00a0<em>is<\/em>\u00a0the exhibit,&#8221; explained Es Devlin<\/strong>. Instead of the exhibition, there is a curved void with walls covered in LED tiles, which will also display the words of the collective poem. The architecture of the pavilion&#8217;s interior is enhanced by a soundscape drawn from choirs from different ethnicities all over the UK.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>Discover also the<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/designdiffusion.com\/en\/2021\/11\/04\/the-italian-pavilion-at-expo-2020-dubai\/\">Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-159184\" src=\"http:\/\/www.designdiffusion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/UK-PAVILION-EXPO-2020-ES-DEVLIN-8-PH.-Alin-Constantin-Photography_low.jpg\" alt=\"expo-dubai-2020\" width=\"1555\" height=\"1134\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The idea of Es Devlin&#8217;s Pavilion at Expo Dubai is to present the UK as a meeting place where ideas, cultures, languages and people from all over the world come together with a sense of openness and integration.<\/p>\n<p>Its creation is an act of European and international collaboration.
