As a complement to the <strong>school\u2019s innovative program centered around outdoor excursions<\/strong> to nearby Prospect Park, we have endeavored to take the ethos of that style of education and to bring it indoors. The project strives to unite the principles of a forest school with the constraints of the built environment. A key strategy was to provide an abstracted nature that reflects the palette and textures of nature through simplified biophilic forms. The children learn by interacting with water, trees, dirt, and landscape. The primary play areas were designed to provide the same range of experience found in the park.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_169651\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-169651\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-169651\" src=\"http:\/\/www.designdiffusion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/78202-preview_low_5897-3_78202_sc_v2com-1.jpg\" alt=\"Wonderforest Nature Preschool Palette Architecture\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-169651\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Forest<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>An environment to be explored<\/h3>\n<p>The Wonderforest Nature Preschool facility is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows that illuminate the spaces with natural light in order to establish visual connections with the outdoors. Common play areas, surrounded by greenery, are flanked by a long corridor leading to the classrooms. The classrooms, also lit with natural light thanks to interior windows, overlook the corridor, allowing teachers to oversee the children during their activities.<\/p>\n<h3><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-169653 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.designdiffusion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/78205-preview_low_5897-3_78205_sc_v2com.jpg\" alt=\"Wonderforest Nature Preschool Palette Architecture\" width=\"1000\" height=\"651\" \/><\/h3>\n<h3>Playing, learning, educating<\/h3>\n<p>At Wonderforest Nature Preschool, communal play areas invite children to engage in stimulating, multi-sensory group adventures. The first play area at the entrance is <strong>The Forest<\/strong>, a hill of artificial grass that features swing sets, obstacle courses, and abstracted wooden trees. Continuing down the corridor is <strong>The Greenhouse<\/strong>, a section where children engage in the care and growth of a variety of plant species.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_169655\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-169655\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-169655\" src=\"http:\/\/www.designdiffusion.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/78203-preview_low_5897-3_78203_sc_v2com.jpg\" alt=\"Wonderforest Nature Preschool Palette Architecture\" width=\"1000\" height=\"655\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-169655\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Wetland<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Finally, the last area is <strong>The Wetland<\/strong>, a space designed specifically to encourage young children to immerse themselves in tactile and sensory activities.
