Arte Charpentier Architectes transforms the offices of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield into a green building
Arte Charpentier Architectes renovated the Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield office building, transforming the structure into a green architecture with shared workspaces. The building complex, called Shift, is located on the boundary between the 15th arrondissement of Paris, one of the most elegant areas of the city, and the town of Issy-les-Moulineaux.
The new Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield offices in Paris: coworking spaces with panoramic views, floating in the air
With this redevelopment project, Arte Charpentier Architectes creates a new type of office. The new spaces encourage coworking and relationships and are in continuous dialogue with the city and the surrounding nature.
The façades of the building, formerly in concrete, are now replaced by a glazed envelope favoring natural interior lighting. Glass surfaces also provide clear and constant views of the outside for greater well-being. The long vertical fins on the façades give the structure a three-dimensional effect. At the center of the building, the new coworking spaces, positioned on terraces at different heights, seem to float in the air. An internal atrium crosses the building from east to west, connecting the 15th arrondissement of Paris and the town of Issy-les-Moulineaux, becoming a meeting point.

The 5,000 sqm ground floor level hosts the reception, the Welcome Bar, the 200-seat auditorium, working spaces, and a restaurant offering different catering themes every day. The vertical fins that cover the exterior of the building are mirrored inside and, made of beech, decorate the atrium.
Shift: green architecture that promotes urban agriculture
Shift is an example of green architecture, characterized by 1,800 sqm of green private terraces, loggias, and balconies. The roof, transformed into a 2,600 sqm terrace, offers outdoor workspaces, a restaurant for lunch break, and 1,000 sqm of urban agriculture operated by NGO Sous les fraises, with the aim of raising employees’ awareness of ecology-related issues.
