3D Printing and Interior Design: eXgineering shapes the new Terrazza Aperol

The Italian start-up redefines an iconic Milan venue with 3D-printed recycled polycarbonate elements, in a project designed by Vudafieri-Saverino Partners

Overlooking Milan’s Piazza Duomo, the Terrazza Aperol has been reimagined through an interior design project that blends sustainability with advanced manufacturing. eXgineering, a start-up specialized in 3D printing, played a key role by shaping the space with recycled polycarbonate and RAM technology (Robotic Additive Moulding).

A vibrant and sustainable visual language

Designed by Vudafieri-Saverino Partners, the project reflects Aperol’s brand values—conviviality and sharing—through bold colours, innovative materials, and organic textures. eXgineering contributed some of the space’s most iconic elements: the central bar counter, a scenographic entrance wall, and a series of custom light fixtures, all made using 3D-printed recycled polycarbonate.

RAM Technology and fluid forms

The RAM technology used by eXgineering enables the creation of complex, three-dimensional forms that would be difficult or costly to produce with traditional methods. Through controlled fusion and cooling of polycarbonate, the process allows for non-planar surfaces, variable thicknesses, and preservation of the material’s technical properties—all while reducing production waste.

The outcome is a dynamic, immersive design inspired by wave movements—merging aesthetic quality, sustainability, and safety. Each element is unique and tailor-made, combining the precision of engineering with the sensitivity of craftsmanship.

The value of recycled polycarbonate

As Simone Maccagnan, Business Development Manager at eXgineering, explains, polycarbonate is far from being “just plastic”: it’s a high-performance material that combines lightness, transparency, mechanical strength, and recyclability. Its use in this project showcases the real design potential of 3D printing, not only in terms of creative freedom, but also in terms of environmental impact and structural reliability.

Shaping the future of interior design

With the Terrazza Aperol project, eXgineering reaffirms its commitment to innovative, sustainable design, opening up new possibilities for 3D printing in the fields of hospitality, food design, and interior decoration. It’s a virtuous example of how recycled materials, advanced technologies, and custom design can seamlessly integrate into contemporary architecture—bringing new life to iconic urban spaces.
