Casacor is an exhibition of interior architecture, held for over 30 years in South America, and now it features 23 editions, one of which is in Miami. The 2019 edition of São Paulo, Brazil’s 33rd, features 75 interiors and gardens, designed by as many architecture studios, which explore contemporary living in different styles and ways. Temporary architectures, which last for about two months, and give different insights into today’s home. Casacor São Paulo 2019 is open until August 4 at the Jockey Club, in São Paulo.
Ricardo Bello Dias and the Deca Lab
The 2019 edition features many interesting projects, which we will review in a few episodes. Let’s start with Deca Lab, for different reasons. First of all the author is Ricardo Bello Dias, an Italian-Brazilian architect, who lives and works in Italy since more than 25 years, and collaborates with many of the best brands of Made in Italy.
Moreover, Deca is global sponsor of Casacor, and just in this edition it supplied products for 17 bathrooms, 32 kitchens, 7 bathrooms for the public and 9 other settings.
Deca Lab, curated by Ricardo Bello Dias, as said, is a conceptual space with real products. It looks like a spaceship and does not go unnoticed, even in such an articulated exhibition area.

From an architectural point of view, it is set up as a small spaceship, partly resembling the Enterprise by “Star Trek” and partly the Space Station 5 by “2001: A Space Odyssey”. It provides settings for different uses, and also features some prototypes of faucets to be launched next year in the Deca collections.
The “Krebs Cycle of Creativity” – the scheme developed by Neri Oxman, architect and designer, researcher at MIT Media Lab, where she founded the Mediated Matter research group – is the basis for the development of the Deca Lab. A virtuous circle where Art, Design, Science and Engineering nourish each other, taking advantage of the mutual collaboration.

The sensory faucets
Studio Bello Dias thus came to design products which offer new ways to interact with the surrounding objects, exploring sensoriality. So the faucets open and close by bending or stretching, or by skimming a magic circle, or a knob. Essential gestures which sum up the simplicity of a minimal product, enhanced by materials such as steel, bronze and copper, with equally sensual finishes, nearly warm and soft.
A Lab where research and design follow the same path, inviting us to think about the environment, always looking for new solutions to improve the quality of life through a better quality of production, more ethical and responsible. (Roberta Mutti)
