At London Design Festival 2019, Designjunction returns to King’s Cross. The exhibition is one of the main events of the London Design Festival (the others are 100% Design, Focus, London Design Fair), along with hundreds of small-scale events. The 2019 edition hosts over 200 brands, in different locations, around the UAL Central Saint Martin college building.
Events and highlights of the London Design Festival 2019
Designjunction 2019: Cubitt House and Cubitt Park
From 19 to 22 September, Designjunction will be located at Cubitt House, the pavilion next to the Coal Drops Yard, the site recently re-designed by Sir Thomas Heatherwick. Cubitt House hosts brands of furniture and lighting.
As an addition to Cubitt House, the exhibition continues in another facility, Cubitt Park, which adds more space for young designers and well-known brands.
The Canopy
The Canopy, a heritage protected wrought iron structure, will be home to over 70 temporary stores and emerging designers, with a focus on fashion accessories, electronics, ceramics, glass, tableware, and stationery.
In 2018, more than 200 brands and designers attracted more than 27,000 visitors, both professional and general public.
King’s Cross, il nuovo Design District
Therefore, King’s Cross, which debuts as an official Design District at London Design Festival, features a rich program of exhibitions and activities, besides Designjunction. In the Coal Office, the Tom Dixon headquarters, adjacent to the Coal Drops Yard, ‘TOUCHYSMELLYFEELYNOISYTASTY‘ will be a kind of festival within the festival, with new product launches, talks and conferences, and of course impressive settings in Tom Dixon’s space.
Designjunction: emerging brands and established names
The setting of the area will be enhanced by the King’s Cross Light Tunnel, the space hosting the Rado Star Prize UK 2019, both for the exhibition and the award ceremony. Among the new products at Designjunction, Verpan, the Danish company producing Verner Panton products, will be presenting three new products. The Flex chair, the Hive pendant lamp, and the Reflect Grey table lamp have never been in production until now.
Designjunction, with new management since 2018, since its very first edition is a platform for experimental design, focusing on small or high profile companies, which however are strongly design-oriented.
Among the exhibitors, Designjunction hosts the best emerging British brands, active in the design industry in the broadest way, thus including furniture, lighting, textiles, fashion accessories, tableware, tech gadgets.
Among the Italian brands, we can also mention Ethimo, which presents some new products, including the new collection by Paola Navone, launched in preview at the Milan Salone del Mobile 2019.
King’s Cross and the settings
The impressive location also is perfect for a variety of striking exhibitions, set up in front of the UAL Central Saint Martin, in Granary Square, and throughout the surrounding area, which extends as far as the Coal Drops Yard, where Martino Gamper‘s two installations, Disco Carbonara and Idiosincratico, are also located: yet another reason to visit Designjunction 2019.
