The evolution of architecture and manufacture is the topic of a design forum at CIFF Shanghai, September 8th, 2019
China is running fast, and it doesn’t miss a chance to prove it. CIFF Shanghai, the largest furniture fair in China along with CIFF Guangzhou, is now in its fifth edition, and this year hosts a conference on the future of architecture and industrialization, in the digital age.
The forum will feature Alvaro Siza, the Portuguese architect who designed the China Design Museum of Bauhaus Collection, in Hangzhou, a building unveiled in 2018, housing the Bauhaus collection of the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou (CAA).
In fact, the China Academy of Art donated itself a design museum to celebrate its 90th anniversary, commissioning the project to Alvaro Siza. The new building is located in the Xiangshan campus at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou; it covers a total area of about 17,000 square meters and houses the exhibition area, an auditorium, a bookshop, as well as several multifunctional rooms and a cafeteria.

The forum, ‘Designed for Humans: From Alvaro Siza’s Modernism into the Digital Future’, held at CIFF Shanghai 2019, is organized by CIFF and Aedes Architecture Forum and brings together eight world-renowned architects who will discuss the future of manufacturing in the digital age.

The Camerich pavilion by Alvaro Siza at CIFF Shanghai 2019
In conjunction with the forum, on September 8th, at CIFF Shanghai 2019, Camerich, a Chinese furniture manufacturer, will present the Camerich pavilion, designed by Alvaro Siza, a temporary architecture that can be visited from September 8th to 11th.
CIFF Shanghai 2019 is held from September 8 to 11 at the National Exhibition & Convention Center in Shanghai Hongqiao. It features over 1,500 exhibitors representing the entire furniture supply chain.
