A comeback in style for Milan Design Week 2022 in Milan city center, with plenty of events and exhibits
The Milan city center, as always, will host a lot of events, ranging from exhibitions in house museums to presentations in showrooms and special installations. One of the highlights of Via Durini is at Natuzzi, which presents a wholly renovated showroom designed by Fabio Novembre, and several new products.
Historic house museums host design in Milan downtown
The Poldi Pezzoli house museum, for example, hosts the exhibition “871 days, 50 products, 17 designers and 1 single color. A temporary exhibition conceived by Luca Nichetto,” which features the work of La Manufacture. The objects on display are all orange, the color of the bibs worn on construction sites. The exhibition, therefore, represents a dynamic and ever-changing construction site.

Palazzo Bagatti-Valsecchi, on the other hand, is home to “Palazzo delle Meraviglie.” Curated by Katrin Herden, the project returns to Fuorisalone for its third edition. In 2022, the Palazzo hosts Barn In The City, an Amsterdam-based studio led by Nancy Torreele with collaborator Martijn Van Rijn.

Tom Dixon is coming to Milan to celebrate his brand’s 20th anniversary with an exhibition of his most iconic pieces at Palazzo Serbelloni.
At Salotto di Milano, Corso Venezia 7, Simone Guidarelli introduces his take on the beauty of interior design. The exhibition “Les Jardins Imaginaires” involves various brands, including Officinarkitettura and Matrix International, Melogranoblu, Bedding Atelier, DSV Carpets and Antica Fabbrica Passamanerie Massia Vittorio 1843, in an immersive installation.
Design icons and enduring projects
Design Variations, the group show curated by Mosca Partners, leaves Palazzo Litta this year and spreads between two prestigious locations downtown. The Circolo Filologico Milanese, at 10 via Clerici, among the others, is hosting a project by Marialaura Rossiello Irvine, Il Caffè del Circolo, a permanent project that will continue after Milan Design Week.
Palazzo Visconti, the other venue of Design Variations 2022, hosts several projects including TURN ON, TUNE IN, DROP BY… with Superonda by Archizoom Associati. For the occasion, the Superonda sofa wears a new fabric, Terrazzo, designed by Laura Bethan Wood, and accompanies the Plasma armchair by Nigel Coates and the Ultrafragola mirror by Ettore Sottsass jr.

Campari Soda and Alessi present two iconic objects designed by Giulio Iacchetti. Cirifletto, Alessi’s first mirror, and Senzabuio, the lamp for the evening aperitif, will be shown at the Alessi showroom at 14/16 Via Manzoni. The objects will be on sale online and, from the fall, in the Mohd showroom on Via Turati.
The Jacob Cohen showroom presents a denim version of the Neil chair, designed by Jean Marie Massaud. The new version, Neil Denim, retains the clean, essential lines but takes on a more contemporary look, thanks to Jacob Cohen’s covering.
A special guest from Japan
The Milan city center also houses a new concept for the public restroom. THE TOKYO TOILET (TTT) is a project that combines Japanese design and hospitality to create a new public toilet concept. During Fuorisalone 2022, The Tokyo Toilet comes to Milan with an exhibition at the Triennale and an installation at the UNIQLO store. Moreover, The Tokyo Toilet and artist Daido Moriyama will offer a new interpretation of the public toilets at the Duomo subway stop.
