Venice Design Week 2024

Venice Design Week+Venice Innovation Design 2024

Together for the first time in an edition dedicated to design, innovation, and the promotion of local artisanal culture.

For the first time, Venice Design Week joins forces with VID – Venice Innovation Design, creating a unique event aimed at celebrating design, innovation, and artisanal craftsmanship within the historic setting of Venice. From October 11 to 20, 2024, exhibitions, conferences, and installations will bring the city to life, engaging with its rich historical and cultural heritage.

Venice Design Week 2024

The fifteenth edition of Venice Design Week will kick off on October 12 at 11 a.m. in the Sala della Musica at the iconic Ca’ Sagredo Hotel, one of Venice’s most renowned venues. With the theme “OUT OF CONTEXT,” the event will run until October 20, exploring designers’ ability to challenge conventions and push the boundaries of design, paving the way for innovative creative solutions.

Visitors will enjoy an immersive experience through conferences, meetings with designers, workshops, and themed itineraries that will unfold across museums, galleries, hotels, concept stores, and artisan workshops. Everything will be complemented by a map guiding the public to discover the value of local craftsmanship and the culture of Made in Italy.

Venice Innovation Design 2024

On October 11, VID – Venice Innovation Design will also open its doors on the Island of San Servolo. Once home to a psychiatric hospital, the island is now a significant cultural center owned by the Metropolitan City of Venice. The prestigious inauguration will feature architect Mario Cucinella, who will speak during the presentation of the new San Servolo amphitheater. This will be followed by a *lectio magistralis* by Giampaolo Nuvolati, professor of Sociology of Environment and Territory at the University of Milan-Bicocca, titled “Flânerie in Design: Between Genius Loci and Individual Memories.”

That same evening, the renovated Palazzina Scirocco_Pianca will be inaugurated. Its restoration, carried out by Pianca, highlights the fusion of functionality and beauty, underscoring a commitment to sustainable and innovative design. The interiors, enriched by creations from Pieces of Venice—a project that won the 2020 Compasso d’Oro—connect with local artisanal tradition through the use of Rubelli fabrics and NasonMoretti glass.

The synergy between Venice Design Week and VID also serves as a platform for sustainability. One example is the initiative “Orizzonti dall’isola,” where international designers meet Venetian ceramists, such as Gianpaolo Venier from Otto Studio and other participants, in a creative dialogue that blends craftsmanship with respect for the environment. Among the featured projects, Diana Zabarella’s “Reborn Shapes” will be presented for the first time.

The 2024 edition of Venice Design Week and VID represents an extraordinary opportunity to unite tradition and innovation, bringing together renowned international designers and emerging talents in the exceptional setting of Venice.
