Stratigrafia Materica: Summer According to Materia 2.0

A visual and tactile moodboard that explores material in design as light, warmth, and transformation

Materia 2.0 returns to narrate the project through the sensitive language of materials. Following the recent opening of the largest materials library in Italy, the brand presents “Stratigrafia Materica”, a new summer composition that celebrates material in design as a multisensory experience.

Material as a narrative

“Stratigrafia Materica” is a moodboard that captures summer through warm surfaces, luminous reflections, and vivid textures. Each selected material tells the story of a moment in time, a transformation, an emotion. The project interprets the seasonal shift with a tactile and visual language.

Nature and technique in dialogue

At the heart of the moodboard are both natural and crafted materials, chosen for their vibrant, expressive qualities. Travertine in three variants – white, red, and a new blue stone – showcases the geological strength of natural stone. Cherry wood, with its soft pink tones, reflects the angled summer light.

Alongside these, artisanal and technical materials come into play: raw terracotta, glazed and craquelé ceramics, three-dimensional stoneware tiles, woven textiles in natural fibers, handcrafted glass that shifts like water, and iridescent metals that react to light like sunlit surfaces.

An aesthetic that suggests, not imposes

As Fabio Pecora, Founder of Materia 2.0, explains, the moodboard doesn’t impose a style but offers an approach: to observe materials not only for how they appear, but for what they convey. It’s a sensitive, layered vision of design, where every surface tells a story.

A summer to explore in the materials library

Starting July 1st, the moodboard will be on display for professionals inside the Materia 2.0 materials library, located at via Marco Polo 9, Milan. A 500 sqm interdisciplinary hub featuring 1,200 curated samples and an archive of 5,000 pieces, representing over 15,000 catalogued materials. A space for universities and professionals alike, where exploring material in design becomes an immersive and forward-thinking experience.
