Light on Display: Photography and Installations by Bigaignon x Rhinoceros

First chapter of the trilogy “Act 1/3: Under the Light” from September 19 to November 18, 2025, featuring photographic works, installations, and sculptures exploring light

Rhinoceros Gallery, a contemporary art space in Rome directed by Alessia Caruso Fendi, launches a new collaboration with the Paris-based gallery Bigaignon. The partnership includes a trilogy of exhibitions running from September 2025 to March 2026, with the first chapter titled “Act 1/3: Under the Light”, on view from September 19 to November 18, 2025.

Bigaignon has been promoting artists investigating light, space, and time for nearly ten years, using minimalism, abstraction, and conceptual photography. This collaboration brings works to Rome that blend diverse artistic languages, exploring light in all its dimensions.

Light as the Main Character

Light remains a central element in the history of art. In photography, it becomes both a creative tool and an expressive medium. The exhibition features 18 works, including photographs, paintings, sculptures, and installations by 15 artists represented by Bigaignon.

Artists on display include:

  • Thomas Paquet with three works, including a large installation in dialogue with PM23, Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti’s foundation in Rome.
  • Renato D’Agostin with 15 silver gelatin prints capturing the transformations of light in urban landscapes.
  • Fernando Marante explores the interaction between light and movement.
  • Chris McCaw presents an unpublished triptych created with sunlight.

Dialogues Between Languages and Approaches

The exhibition highlights surprising interactions: Máté Dobokay and James Howell create a dialogue between photography and contemporary painting. Rossella Bellusci presents ephemeral portraits, while Anne-Camille Allueve and Anne Blanchet explore light with minimalist approaches. Wall sculptures by Mireille Fulpius and photographs by Yannig Hedel and Elyn Zimmerman enrich the exhibition with references to the 1970s Light & Space movement. Rachelle Bussières combines scientific observation with intuitive experience using the analog lumen print process. The journey concludes with The Priest by Ralph Gibson, an iconic photograph in contemporary art.

Immersive Installations and Future Highlights

In parallel, Bigaignon will curate a space on the first floor of the Rhinoceros building until March 2026, featuring a large immersive installation by Olivier Ratsi. The work synthesizes the three key themes of the Roman trilogy: light, time, and space.

This first chapter offers Rome a powerful dialogue between art and light, transforming the perception of space through high-level contemporary works.
