Nordic Vision: Finnish architecture takes the stage in Florence

A talk with Lahdelma & Mahlamäki and Anttinen Oiva Architects explores new models of sustainable urban development

Finnish architecture and sustainable urban development will be the focus of Nordic Vision, scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Palazzina Reale in Piazza della Stazione 50 in Florence. The event offers a direct look at how Finnish architecture is reshaping the idea of city regeneration.

Visions and projects from the North

Key speakers include Selina Anttinen, Founding Partner of Anttinen Oiva Architects, and Rainer Mahlamäki, Founding Partner of Lahdelma & Mahlamäki architects in Helsinki. They will present projects in Helsinki and Oulu, selected for their strong focus on climate change, CO₂ emission reduction, recycling, circular economy, and respect for both people and the urban and natural context.

A journey of encounters and ideas

The Fondazione Architetti Firenze promotes the initiative within the “Glance Around” program. This is the seventh appointment in a cycle of architecture talks launched in 2022 and curated by architect Arianna Callocchia. The aim is to foster cultural and professional dialogue between Italy and the international scene, encouraging exchange on strategies and urban visions.

Finland as a model for cities

The talk highlights the central role that Finland assigns to architecture and sustainable urban development. The discussion will explore the environmental, social, economic, and political impacts of urban regeneration projects.

From institutions to dialogue

After institutional greetings by Caterina Bini, President of Fondazione Architetti Firenze; Silvia Ricceri, President of Ordine Architetti Firenze; Andrea Innocenzo Volpe, Associate Professor of Architectural and Urban Design at UniFi; and Matti Lassila, Ambassador of Finland in Italy, the conference will be moderated by Antonio Salvi, Board Member of Fondazione Architetti Firenze.
