Stone Horizons: Santa Caterina Travertine and the Light of Rome

Architect Giorgia Dennerlein designs a penthouse where travertine and bespoke design celebrate the aesthetics of rigor

In the Roman architectural landscape, the dialogue between past and present finds a perfect synthesis in this new residential project. The intervention by Architect Giorgia Dennerlein of Studio Loto Ad Project elevates the original building’s aesthetic through the masterful use of Santa Caterina travertine. This material becomes the true narrative language of the space, seamlessly connecting the exterior and interior in a continuous visual flow.

 Santa Caterina travertine

A thread between history and modernity

The original building, characterized by a strong Rationalist imprint, features rigorous fluting that defines the balconies. This architectural detail has been reinterpreted indoors, transforming into a perimeter band that runs along the walls.

This design choice dialogues with the height of the large windows, creating a frame that defines the rooms and enhances their volumes. Here, the stone is not a simple cladding but a structural element that lends solemnity and harmony to the entire home.

Minimalism and bespoke furnishings

The apartment is distinguished by a minimalist style, yet it is rich in artisanal references. The selection of elements is essential: a few highly refined objects warm the atmosphere, playing on neutral and sophisticated tones.

  • Tailored craftsmanship: doors and cabinetry are custom-made to maximize functionality without sacrificing formal purity
  • Depth: in the living area, a transparent glass partition separates the kitchen zone, where the DC10 model by Rossana (designed by Vincenzo de Cotiis) reflects the lounge through a mirrored wall
  • Light: powder blue details and wide views over Rome’s greenery complete the perception of weightlessness

The eternity of stone in interior design

Every room in the house was conceived to endure, both aesthetically and materially. In the bathrooms, the dialogue between veined marbles and textured surfaces creates a vibrant tactile contrast while maintaining the sober elegance that characterizes the entire project.

The continuity between flooring and walls, ensured by the use of Santa Caterina travertine, transforms this apartment into a bright and welcoming sanctuary, suspended between the capital’s sky and the solidity of noble stone.
