The YellowSquare hostel in Florence offers contemporary, cheerful and friendly hospitality
YellowSquare Firenze, just a few meters from the Fortezza da Basso, in Florence, is the third hostel in the YellowSquare family, already present in Rome and Milan. YellowSquare is a hospitality format that in recent years has had increasing success. On the one hand, a hostel for students, with dormitories for up to eight people, and spaces for conviviality and sharing; on the other hand, single, double or family rooms for tourists who have preserved the curious spirit of students, or business travelers looking for a cozy atmosphere without pomp.
The structure that houses YellowSquare Florence used to be a dispensary for tuberculosis patients, built in 1935. In a state of disrepair since 2005, it consists of two buildings, a six-story and a single-story building. YellowSquare occupies both buildings, for a total of over 5,000 square meters. Pierattelli Architetture’s redevelopment project has preserved the structural elements of the existing rationalist architecture adapting the spaces to today’s functions.

A minimalist architecture for a cozy atmosphere
The portal, the steps, the large skirting and the profiles of the openings on the façade are in travertine; overall, the ivory white façades are essential and emphasize the character of the building. The rooms are located on the first and second floors; on the ground floor there is a common kitchen and a space for cooking classes as well as service rooms for the restaurant. In the basement, in addition to the technical rooms, there is a club area, and, lastly, the attic houses the swimming pool and the solarium.
The different floors are characterized by different energizing colors ranging from yellow to green, blue and orange. The sound-absorbing fiber on the ceiling becomes an enveloping texture in the corridors. Geometries and colors of the walls and floor outline an interior with a youthful and convivial atmosphere.
