London Design Festival returns September 17-25, 2022, to celebrate its 20th edition
This year the London Design Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary, from 17 to 25 September, 2022, with a program packed with events, exhibitions and installations, turning London into the capital of design for 10 days.

Now in its 20th year, since its first edition in 2003, the Festival aims to promote London as a design capital. The London Design Festival has played a key role in the expansion of the British design industry, strengthening the position of London and the United Kingdom as a center of creativity. In addition, the Festival has boosted international tourism, thus promoting London as a global travel destination.

In 2019, the last pre-pandemic year, the Festival welcomed over 600,000 visitors, more than a third of whom came from abroad, representing 75 countries. Moreover, with the help of the London Design Festival, more than 2,500 small and established companies directly reached a broad audience.
In 2022, the Festival will once again become a focal point for the international design community through its program of installations, museum exhibitions, Design Districts, and the Global Design Forum, the program that will bring together creative leaders in seminars and talks.
Landmark projects in 2022
At Cromwell Place, Sony Design will present INTO SIGHT, a life-sized multimedia platform that plays on sensory effects to transform surfaces into an infinite vista through changing lights, colors, and sounds. As the audience enters, visual and sound interactions are generated that combine physical and meta-reality. Designer Sabine Marcelis will design an outdoor installation in central London’s Centre Point.
London Design Festival Commissions
For the Commissions program, LSI Stone will work with Stanton Williams and Webb Yates, in collaboration with experimentadesign, to create Henge. The project, in Greenwich Peninsula, the Design District where Design London is also located, is inspired by Neolithic stone structures. The circular shape of the installation will create a gathering space with a clear identity, a welcoming place to relax, with music and performance. This pavilion will be built of 150-million-year-old Jurassic limestone and marble, a recyclable and carbon-neutral material.
Festival hub
The London Design Festival at the V&A Museum is a collaboration between one of the world’s leading art and design museums and London’s leading contemporary design festival. Now in its 13th year as the Festival’s official Hub, this collaboration will see several exhibitions and installations created explicitly by contemporary international designers.
The R for Repair exhibition is a project of the DesignSingapore Council and the National Design Centre (Singapore). Curated by Hans Tan Studio (SG) and Jane Withers Studio (UK), the exhibition features Singaporean and British designers repairing and giving new life to British and Singaporean objects; these are broken household objects fostering reflection on the concept of repair and its validity.
Plasticity, on the other hand, is a monumental sculpture designed by Italian architect Niccolò Casas, 3D printed by Nagami, and made from Ocean Plastic, marine plastic waste recovered by the collaborative network Parley for the Oceans. Presented at the 2021 Architecture Biennale, the project explores the conversion of harmful waste material into new uses, while highlighting the organization’s work to clean the world’s beaches, islands, and coastal communities.
The V&A Museum will also be the scene of a live glassblowing performance by Omer Arbel, a Canadian designer and architect.

Design Districts at London Design Festival 2022
This year 12 Design Districts will be part of the Festival; Brompton Design District, Clerkenwell Design Trail, Islington Design District, King’s Cross Design District, Mayfair Design District, Shoreditch Design Triangle, Southwark South Design District, William Morris Design Line.
After a successful debut last year, Greenwich Peninsula and Park Royal Design District will come back, and Bankside Design District and Pimlico Road Design District are relaunching in 2022.
Design London
Design London returns to North Greenwich for its second edition from September 21-24, 2022. After debuting in 2021, the fair doubles in size this year.

Global Design Forum
The Global Design Forum is the London Design Festival’s program of seminars and talks celebrating design thinking. This year the Festival is collaborating with Arup Foresight, ExploreStation, led by Design Council on behalf of Network Rail, and in partnership with Commonplace, Digital Urban, The GlassHouse Community Led Design, and Tétris Design and Build.
The program for 2022 includes a range of current topics. In particular, sustainable and regenerative design; opportunities and challenges arising from new technologies and platforms; diversity and inclusion in the sector; and the opening of the design market.
