Castel Steinbock: the enchantment of Christmas in Villandro

Castel Steinbock: a luxury retreat in the heart of the Dolomites, where every detail celebrates the magic of Christmas

In the heart of the village of Villandro, nestled in the picturesque Isarco Valley, stands Castel Steinbock, a hotel-castle that harmoniously blends the ancient charm of a historic residence with the luxury of minimalism, featuring neutral palettes and refined textures that highlight the structure itself. Upon entering this magnificent 15th-century residence, with its 12 suites, guests are immediately welcomed into an experience of pure well-being..

A unique alpine retreat

During winter, Castel Steinbock transforms into a true Christmas fairytale. Guests can embark on magnificent snowshoe hikes on the Villandro Alp, explore the picturesque village of Chiusa and its Christmas market, or discover the best ski slopes in the Dolomites. After a day immersed in nature, visitors can unwind in the sauna or bathtub right in their room, before indulging in a sensory dining experience at the castle’s restaurant.

Elisabeth Rabensteiner has transformed this ancient residence, once a courthouse and later an inn, into a refined gourmet hotel, where the distinctive alpine style blends seamlessly with contemporary design.

The essence of Italian hospitality

Elisabeth Rabensteiner’s passion for every little detail is evident in every corner of Castel Steinbock, where each suite is unique. The rooms are furnished with smoked oak furniture, vintage rugs, soft lighting, and pieces crafted by local artisans.

The culinary delights of Castel Steinbock

The “soulful food” at Castel Steinbock’s restaurant is a true sensory experience. The day begins with South Tyrolean delicacies served in the cozy Stube del Tribunale. In the Defregger Stube, made of larch wood and with an intimate atmosphere, Chef Tomek Kinder, awarded two toques by the Gault-Millau Guide, delights guests with a menu featuring seasonal local products, reinterpreted with a Mediterranean touch. The castle’s wine cellar, a small underground cave outside the walls, houses over 800 labels from around the world, many of which are rare treasures.

The “Wine Culture Award” won in the summer of 2024 further confirms the castle’s passion for wine and its contribution to the promotion and preservation of South Tyrolean wines. Additionally, Castel Steinbock was awarded “Hotel of the Year 2024” by the renowned gastronomic guide Gault-Millau.
