A “Remake” of the Bauhaus – 100 Years of Design

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the most famous design school in history, various companies re-edit some iconic products

The Bauhaus revolutionized the way to teach and conceive art, architecture and design from 1919 to 1933. The integration between art and industry lay at the heart of this movement founded in Weimar 100 years ago. This school originated a way to conceive spaces that influenced many decades of the last century. Many icons belong to this period and some of them are re-edited for this anniversary.Knoll presents a “Bauhaus Edition”: the MR collection designed by Mies van der Rohe, now featuring new fabric and leather options, and the iconic Barcelona Chair, presented in a limited edition of 365 pieces produced in 2019, one for each day of the year, certified and numbered.Tecnolumen reproduces, for the first time ever in the silver version, Wilhelm Wagenfeld’s lamp, also known as the “Bauhaus lamp.” This iconic object is characterized by simple geometric shapes: a glass base, a cylindrical body and an upper spherical part.Alessi proposes, with a celebrative packaging, the steel and brass ashtrays designed by Marianne Brandt and the stainless steel sugar and cream set designed by Marianne Brandt and Helmut Schulze, iconic pieces that represent the style of the Bauhaus.Last, Coincasa’s reinterpretation entails the use of pure geometrical shapes and primary colors alternating with sophisticated hues, rich textures and artisanal production.
