At the Fuorisalone 2019, Asia Design Milano presents an exhibition on Israeli art and design, elements of connection and harmony in a land of sometimes insurmountable contrasts and barriers
Asia Design Milano is the reference platform for the Asian creative scene during the Milan Design Week. This exhibition and communication project started in 2018 with the partnership between Sarpi Bridge_Oriental Design Week and Milano Space Makers. For the Fuorisalone 2019,within the palimpsest of Tortona Rocks (via Tortona 31), it will present The impossible story of Israeli Design, an exhibition showing Israeli creativity and design through the works of over 15 exhibitors – designers and performers.
Israeli is a country as fascinating as it is complex: a land of countless migrations, cultures and religions, as well as a meeting point between East and West. Dan Moukatel, Israeli curator and creative director of the project, unveils the hidden face of this country, the most creative and versatile, in which design and art harmoniously connect people, overcoming the cultural and political barriers that, by nature, for centuries, have often divided.
Design and art from Israel
Ann Deych with Debora Fisher, Aviv Agami, Chana Hauser, Ganit Goldstein and Liav Koko are some of the artists taking part in the event. Among the various performances, Ann Deych and Debora Fisher will present Mazze Land/Futuristic Food Culture, a simulation of a possible future scenario in a kitchen, an intimate, almost sacred space designed to eat and connect.
The exhibition will also include the iconic 1993 collection by the great fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier, “CHIC RABBIS”, testifying to the interesting connection between the designer and Israel. This unique, fascinating, innovative and highly creative collection caused scandal for its references to orthodox Jewish dress codes, but it still represents a milestone in the Jewish tradition related to fashion – so much so that it is studied in Israeli fashion and design academies.
Homi Asiadesign Award
Moreover, this year, the most original, innovative and sustainable Asian design project/product on display in the official Fuorisalone circuits will be awarded with the HOMI ASIA DESIGN AWARD in collaboration with HOMI FIERA MILANO.
The opening picture belongs to the collection I See Things by Israeli photographer Shani Sadicario, whose works will be on show.
