After being postponed twice due to the health emergency, the 2020 edition of Design Shanghai is back, from 26 to 29 November
In China, the third physical furniture fair after Covid is back. Now in its seventh edition, Design Shanghai debuts in a new venue, the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Exhibition Center. The Shanghai fair leaves the old exhibition center, which had become inadequate to host the large number of visitors. This new venue offers a larger, new space, and is very well connected by public transport.
The exhibition area of the new venue is 40% larger than the Shanghai Exhibition Center, and this space is necessary to host exhibitors and visitors, who have exceeded 70,000. Over 400 exhibitors will take part in Design Shanghai 2020 and a significant number is made up of Italian companies.
Design Shanghai: The Forum and Talents
Over the years, in addition to the traditional trade fair, Design Shanghai has developed a program of seminars, The Forum, involving leading figures from the world of design, from all over the world. For the 2020 edition there will be Li Xiang from X-Living, Jamy Yang from YANG HOUSE, Steven Smit from MVRDV, Lyla Wu and Neuni Group, who will participate in physical seminars. Wing Lo, Philippe Starck, Kelly Hoppen, Barber Osgerby and Studio Lotus will participate remotely.
The 2020 program also includes several installations and special exhibitions, with the participation of many designers from overseas, such as Tom Dixon, Marcel Wanders with Moooi Works, Lee Broom, and Chinese designers, such as Mario Tsai Studio, Yang Design.
This year, the “Talents” exhibition, a special section dedicated to young Chinese talents, will make its debut. Curated by Frank Chou, the winner of SaloneSatellite.Shanghai 2016, this exhibition promotes young Chinese talents to help them develop their business. The participants in the 2020 edition are KAE Studio, Huang Zixin, Doris Wang from Dorisofia Studio, Wang Yunhan from Cosi Design Studio, Anne Zhou, Cui Zhihua, Chen Danqi, Zhou Changwei and Wu Hai.
The rich event program of the 2020 edition confirms the role of Design Shanghai as one of Asia’s leading design events.
