At the Milan Design Week 2022, the ninth edition of 5VIE Design Week, between past and future
5VIE Design Week celebrates its ninth edition inspired by an interesting philosophy: Prototyping Utopias. Utopia is a more sustainable future, a city in the making, planned by design. The 5VIE, at Milan Design Week, are the ideal workshop for this project; starting from the building of SIAM, a historical institution dedicated to arts and crafts, it expands to the collective dimension of the neighborhood, which thus becomes an interdisciplinary workshop for hybridizations between the areas of design, art, fashion and crafts. The theme will be developed in different but interconnected branches: guest exhibitions and 5VIE productions; partner projects; the territory and its actors; lastly, the dedication to an historical designer or architect. This year’s choice is the radical collective Archizoom Associati.

A natural consequence is the involvement of Poltronova, a company that was able to give substance to Archizoom’s visions between the 1960s and 1970s, thanks to the entrepreneurial courage of Sergio Cammilli and the enlightened artistic direction of Ettore Sottsass. At the 5VIE headquarters, via Cesare Correnti 14, Centro Studi Poltronova presents a focus on Archizoom’s work. In addition to monographs on Archizoom, it will be possible to see the iconic Superonda seat with the new Farfalla upholstery for indoor and outdoor use.

Design and craftsmanship in Italy and the Netherlands
Among the various exhibitions and installations in the 5VIE district at the Fuorisalone 2022, we can mention Doppia Firma, curated by Michelangelo Foundation. At Palazzo Litta, Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte showcases a unique collection that is the result of the creative exchange between a designer/artist and an artisan, or an outstanding manufacturer.
Now in its sixth edition, Masterly – The Dutch in Milano, the event dedicated to Dutch design, fine craftsmanship and art, returns also this year. Nicole Uniquole, creator and curator of the event, returns to Milan to present selected designers, architects, artists, artisans, schools and companies.
Stone Italiana presents its new material, Cosmolite, in a temporary showroom at Via degli Arcimboldi 5. Stone Italiana’s new Cosmolite surfaces are made from a mixture made of 100% pre-consumer recycled aggregates that is easy to work with, durable and beautiful. Moreover, Cosmolite relies on a new production process and is quartz-free, thus more sustainable.
Still in the 5VIE, Le FRENCH DESIGN, the platform that promotes innovation in furniture and interior design, presents the exhibition Voyage en Intérieur, Le French Art de Vivre at the Institut français in Milan. The exhibition Voyage en Intérieur, Le French Art de Vivre showcases in Milan a selection of the most interesting self-produced design creations by the interior designers who won the second edition of Le FRENCH DESIGN 100 award. Furnishings and objects that testify to the creativity and richness of French design, sustainability, the many craft and industrial skills involved, alongside customized or unique proposals for the hospitality, retail and residential sectors.
