Clerkenwell Design Week 2023: a record-breaking edition

Clerkenwell Design Week is London’s independent design festival that welcomed more than 37,000 visitors from May 23 to 25, 2023

The twelfth edition of Clerkenwell Design Week took place in London’s most creative neighborhood, May 23-25, 2023. This year, the UK’s leading independent design festival, one of the world’s leading design hubs, merged with Design London and reported 37.725 visitors from both the UK and overseas – the best attendance results in its 14-year history and 24% up on 2019.

CDW took place in the heart of Clerkenwell, the neighborhood hosting some of the world’s most creative design and architecture firms. The three-day event offered a program full of events, installations, exhibitions and talks in 11 exhibition venues presenting more than 300 design brands. Moreover, the festival saw the participation of over 160 local showrooms hosting a range of product launches, workshops and talks.

Among the installations seen at this edition we can mention inflatable artworks by Steve Messam; modular seating structure by PLP Architecture; a collection of multifaceted, Megalithic columns from Duffy London; a multi-sensory, wave-like tunnel constructed from seaweed paper by Jestico + Whiles; the BAUX temporary exhibition with the special participation of London artist and designer Morag Myerscough.

Conversations at Clerkenwell

Conversations at Clerkenwell was also back with its exciting program of daily talks and meetings featuring designers, architects, and business executives from well-known brands in the industry. The meetings were held in a theater at Spa Fields specially designed for the event and sponsored by RAK Ceramics. Topics included sound design, color trends for 2024, Scandinavian design, circularity, and the future of wellness in the hospitality industry.

This edition’s speakers included Morag Myerscough, Philippe Malouin, Nipa Doshi, Yuri Suzuki, James Patmore. There were also leading figures such as Mimi Shodeinde, Tom Dixon and Ben Cullen Williams.

The next edition of Clerkenwell Design Week is scheduled for May 21-23, 2024.
