The 33rd edition of the world’s leading exhibition for furnishing textiles has concluded at Villa Erba. A record-breaking edition that saw the triumph of the bond between manufacturing heritage and technological innovation
The curtain has fallen on the 33rd edition of Proposte 2026, the event that, from May 5 to 7, transformed Cernobbio into the world capital of high-end textiles. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Villa Erba, 87 exhibitors (an 11% increase over last year) presented the innovations that will dress homes and contract spaces in the coming years. This year’s theme, Heritage Forward, was not just a slogan but a statement of intent: projecting historical expertise toward the new frontiers of sustainability and international design.

The Design of Cristina Celestino Redefines Hospitality
One of the major highlights of the 33rd edition of Proposte 2026 was the extraordinary architectural transformation of the common areas. Architect Cristina Celestino interpreted the textile identity by redesigning the Ala Regina and the new Lounge Esedra into authentic inspirational salons.
Through the clever use of exhibited fabrics—transformed into theatrical backdrops—the Lounge became the pulsing heart of networking, furnished with design icons such as Saba’s Gala sofas and Contardi’s Claretta table lamps. The visitor experience was thus elevated into a sensory journey between nature (the lakeside gardens) and matter (the jacquards and velvets on display).

Growing Sector Numbers: From Outdoor to Contract
The fair reflected a healthy sector, with the total turnover of the participating companies nearing 1.3 billion euros. During the 33rd edition of Proposte 2026, the central role of exports (64.32%) was strongly evident, looking not only toward historic markets like the USA and Germany but also toward expanding frontiers such as South Korea and the Baltic States.

Dominant Trends:
- Outdoor: 64% of companies presented technical solutions for the outdoors, confirming an increasingly seamless fusion between interior and exterior spaces.
- Contract: Consistently rising (26.4%), with a strong specialization in flame-retardant fabrics for luxury hospitality.
- Textiles and Design: The collaboration between editors and manufacturers was celebrated with the debut of the INTERNI.PROPOSTE AWARD 2026, which recognized excellence in the categories of Fine Outdoor, Inspired by Nature, and Precious Touch.

Culture and Heritage: A Commitment Beyond Business
Proposte is more than just a trade fair; it is a guardian of textile culture. This was demonstrated by its support for the restoration of the 19th-century upholstery in the Bevilacqua Room of the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum, a project curated by the Lisio Foundation in Florence which was completed just in time for the event.
The 33rd edition of Proposte 2026 thus closes with a clear message: the quality of Made in Italy and the ability to innovate without losing one’s roots are the keys to winning the challenge of global markets.
