Signature Kitchen Suite launches a competition for architects and architecture students dedicated to the new role of the kitchen
The theme of the competition is the design of a new role for the domestic kitchen, also in light of the most recent changes accelerated by the health emergency. Participation in the competition is open to registered architects and final-year architecture or interior design students residing in Italy. It will be possible to apply until June 30, 2021, by submitting an original design of what the ideal kitchen of the present and future time should look like. Projects must include at least two Signature Kitchen Suite appliances.

The contest reflects the three elements of Signature Kitchen Suite’s DNA. Innovation is understood as smart technology that responds to the real needs of people. Design is about rethinking spaces and making different environments communicate with each other. Finally, food, at the base of the project, expresses the key concept expressed by the True to Food philosophy and indicates how the attention to quality food can have an impact on architecture and design projects.
The theme of the SKS De-sign Contest
The Covid-19 health emergency has highlighted the need to rethink certain spaces in the home. With a view to future ways of managing work, involving a greater presence at home, the flexibility of domestic space is certainly a topic for reflection. The competition, therefore, fosters reflection on the meaning of the kitchen today. While remaining the key space for food preparation, the kitchen today needs to change and transform rapidly, and takes on new centrality in the domestic environment.
The jury
A jury composed of experts in the interior design field will judge the projects:
Gilda Bojardi, editor-in-chief of the INTERNI magazine (Mondadori Group) and of all the publications of the system. Creator of the first Interni Designer’s Week Milano in 1990, in 2007 she received the Ambrogino d’Oro from the Municipality of Milan and in 2020 the Compasso d’Oro ADI for lifetime achievement;
Maria Santi, architect, Councilor of the Chamber of Architects of the Province of Milan and its Foundation since 2017. In 2012 she founded the Cristofori Santi Architetti Associati practice with Giacomo Cristofori;
Fabio Calvi and Paolo Brambilla, architects and designers, co-founders of the Calvi Brambilla practice, based in Milan. They oversaw the interior design of the Signature Kitchen Suite showroom in Milan;
Imma Forino, Full Professor of Interior Architecture and Exhibition Design at the Politecnico di Milano and author of “La cucina. Storia culturale di un luogo domestico” published by Einaudi in 2019;
Manuela Ricci, marketing manager of Signature Kitchen Suite and responsible for all brand communication activities in Italy. She boasts twenty years of experience in the sector of high-end kitchen appliances.

The prizes
Architects’ category:
1st prize: 5-night trip for two to Napa Valley (California), including a guided tour of the Signature Kitchen Suite training center. Overnight stay in a 5* hotel, round-trip flights and transfers included.
2nd prize: trip for two to Milan with 1-night stay in a 5* hotel, dinner at a starred restaurant and cooking class or wine tasting experience at the Signature Kitchen Suite showroom.
3rd prize: experiential day in Milan for two people, private tour of one of Milan’s design districts, panoramic lunch and cooking class or wine tasting experience at the Signature Kitchen Suite showroom.
Students’ category:
Single prize: 1-month internship at an architecture studio or specialized company in Milan; a cooking class for two at the Signature Kitchen Suite showroom.
Winner announcement
The winners of the competition in the two categories will be announced in September during Salone del Mobile.Milano with a ceremony at the Signature Kitchen Suite showroom, via Manzoni 47, Milan. Moreover, the winning projects in the two categories will be featured in the INTERNI magazine, official media partner of the initiative, and on the digital channels of Signature Kitchen Suite.
