In Berlin, Crossboundaries turns a motorboat on the waters of Lake Stößensee into an eco-friendly mini houseboat
Design studio Crossboundaries has transformed a solar-powered motorboat into an eco-friendly 62 sqm house on the water in Berlin.
The eco-friendly home on the water by Crossboundaries
About 15 meters long and just over 4 meters wide, the boat includes a set of interlinked and multi-purpose areas. Each space is in fact able to offer all the comfort and convenience of a home. The helmstand area, for example, converts into a practical single bed, the sofa into a double bed. The table in the kitchen is foldable, as is the desk that emerges from the closet and defines the study and work area on board. Moreover. concealed under the floor is ample storage space.
A sustainable project
The house on the water by Crossboundaries is environmentally friendly and enriched with handcrafted details made from high-quality materials. The boat offers smart and innovative solutions in terms of solar energy, heating, water and waste management. On sunny days, thanks to the presence of solar panels, the home is completely self-sufficient with an average range of 50 km per day. The pellet stove, on the other hand, is remotely controlled via an app. In the future, the boat’s owner would like to add a water purification system and a biological sewage treatment unit to upgrade the boat for long trips.
