Architecture in Austria: from Otto Wagner to the new generations

In Rome, DMAA and querkraft present their latest work

A talk organized to foster dialogue between the Italian and Austrian architectural scenes, focusing on timely topics in architectural design and sustainable urban development. The conference will spotlight the most significant aspects of Austrian architectural culture within the European Union and its current alignment with contemporary international trends and goals.

“Architecture in Austria. From Otto Wagner to the New Generations” will take place on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Casa dell’Architettura, Piazza Manfredo Fanti 47, Rome.

During the event, which will also feature Christian Kühn, Professor at TU Wien, architects Roman Delugan, founding partner of Delugan Meissl Associated Architects (Vienna), and Gerd Erhartt, founding partner of querkraftarchitekten (Vienna), will present their sustainable design approaches and a selection of projects that address the diverse and ever-evolving needs of a growing and changing society. Roman Delugan will showcase some of the most recent works completed both in Austria and internationally.

These innovative projects, which integrate architecture and nature, reshape urban landscapes in response to the challenges of urbanization and climate change. Gerd Erhartt will present a selection of projects that engage with the historical and urban context in which they are set, with a strong focus on environmental sustainability, social transformation, and technological innovation—while remaining mindful of their historical and cultural roots. Christian Kühn, Professor at TU Wien and an expert in Baukultur, will discuss the architectural and urban transformations that have taken place in Austria from Otto Wagner to the present day.

The initiative is promoted by the Casa dell’Architettura and the Order of Architects P.P.C. of Rome and Province, in collaboration with the Austrian Cultural Forum Rome. The event is curated by architect Arianna Callocchia. Event partners include Acrobatica and Ristyle. Technical partners for the food and wine tasting are Casale del Giglio and Martinucci Laboratory.
