Art and Architecture in nature: OCA Oasy Contemporary Art opens in Tuscany

From June 15, an immersive open-air trail at Oasi Dynamo with site-specific works by internationally renowned artists and architects

On June 15, 2025, OCA Oasy Contemporary Art opened to the public — a visionary project by Oasi Dynamo that brings together contemporary art, architecture, and landscape. Located in San Marcello Piteglio (Pistoia), in the heart of the Oasi Dynamo nature reserve, the trail — under the artistic direction of Emanuele Montibeller — offers a full immersion in an unspoiled environment through site-specific installations by internationally renowned artists and architects.

A path to be experienced on foot, among artworks and woods

The journey to OCA Oasy Contemporary Art begins at the parking area in Croce di Piteglio. From there, a 30-minute walk through the forest leads to the welcome point: a former stable transformed into an exhibition space. This is where the circular route begins — a one-and-a-half-hour itinerary guided by the Oasi staff, who accompany visitors in discovering the site-specific installations immersed in the landscape.

The installations: silent dialogues between art, architecture, and nature

The trail begins with the Dynamo Pavilion by Kengo Kuma, an architectural sculpture of interwoven bundles that moves like wind through the trees. Next is Nella terra il cielo, a work by Mariangela Gualtieri and Michele De Lucchi, blending poetic language with evocative architecture.

Among the trees stands Fratelli Tutti by Matteo Thun, a circle of stone monoliths inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical. Further along the path, Erosions by Quayola sculpts volcanic rock using generative algorithms, thanks to the support of Ranieri Pietre.

Beneath a pre-existing structure sits Self-regulation by Alejandro Aravena, an open-ended reflection on dwelling and the interaction between humans and space. The loop ends in the meadow, where two installations—already part of OCA’s permanent collection—await: Home of the World by David Svensson and the vibrant Plastic Bags by Pascale Marthine Tayou.

An exhibition in the former barn: Art is WOW!

Inside the exhibition space, Art is WOW!, curated by Fondazione Arte Dynamo, showcases a selection of over 2,000 works created through Dynamo Art Factory — the project that, for over 15 years, has combined contemporary art and Dynamo® Recreational Therapy for children with serious illnesses.

OCA Oasy Contemporary Art: from art to gastronomy

Alongside art, OCA Oasy Contemporary Art also offers a gastronomic experience: at the Oasi Dynamo Visitor Center, the Casa Luigi restaurant serves reservation-only dishes inspired by the local territory. On display here are five original sculptures by Michele De Lucchi, the Legni di pietra — a material and poetic reflection on the mutability of forms.
