AEG Celebrates a New Vision of Design

From the Kitchen Design Contest to Live Forever with IED: innovation, sustainability, and creativity shaping the home of the future

The kitchen is increasingly the heart of the home — a place for connection, creativity, and experience.
With more than 130 years of design and research, AEG continues to merge advanced technology with refined aesthetics. Inspired by the Bauhaus philosophy, where art and technique coexist, AEG launched two key projects: the Kitchen Design Contest and Live Forever, in collaboration with IED – Istituto Europeo di Design.

Kitchen Design Contest: Innovation Meets Talent

The AEG Design Contest invited architects, designers, and students to imagine the kitchen of the future — a space where technology, functionality, and sustainability meet. A jury including Davide Oldani, Fabio Novembre, and Manuela Soffientini selected the most innovative entries.

Winners – Professional Category

  • Molecola – Kitchen: “The New Language of Cooking” | A Dynamic, Modular, and Customizable System.
  • BHR: A Project Exploring Accessible and Transformable Kitchen Design
  • No Modular Kitchen: A Multifunctional and Flexible Solution.

Student Category

Just Me – The Winning Project: A Compact Concept Designed for Small Spaces and Dynamic Lifestyles.

Live Forever: Responsible and Digital Design

With Live Forever, AEG and IED shifted the focus of research toward garment care. Students developed posters and ideas to extend the lifespan of clothing, demonstrating that sustainability starts with everyday habits. The winning project, AEG Buddy, is a smart app that turns the washing machine into a personalized AI assistant. The app tracks washes and energy consumption while promoting eco-friendly practices through an interactive community.

Creativity, Vision, and Future

During the awards ceremony in Milan, Manuela Soffientini highlighted the legacy of Peter Behrens, the father of the AEG philosophy: “Form is never an end in itself, but always in the service of function.” The winning projects showcase a design that combines emotion, awareness, and innovation.

With the Kitchen Design Contest and Live Forever, AEG and IED celebrate the power of design as a universal language. An ideal bridge from the Bauhaus to new generations, where aesthetics, ethics, and technology shape the future of living.
