The Art Side of Kartell

The art side of Kartell: an exhibition between art and design for the 70th anniversary of the Milan-based company on the Italian design scene

“The art side of Kartell”, celebrating the 70th anniversary of Kartell, can be visited until May 11th, 2019. The exhibition, conceived by Ferruccio Laviani and curated by Laviani and Rita Selvaggio, is hosted in the halls of the Appartamento dei Principi in Milan’s Palazzo Reale, promoted by Comune di Milano-Cultura, Palazzo Reale and Kartell.

Kartell is an Italian company with a long history in the world of “living culture” and innovation. Its products are characterized by an ongoing research into new materials and production processes that allowed them to become protagonists of the Italian history of post-WWII design, creating new functions thanks to technological evolution.

Materials, research, technology and creativity: with the highest quality, the company has created design icons and emphasized their cultural value at once. The constant dialogue between art and design that Kartell has been nurturing for 70 years becomes the narrative for an exhibition that winds through eleven rooms, each characterized by an identity that combines memory and contemporary.

The rooms of the exhibition create a non-chronological and hybrid narrative exploring yesterday’s vision of the future through objects, archive materials, moving images, paintings, installations and performance, documents and prototypes in an ongoing dialogue.

Inaugurated during the Salone del Mobile 2019, the exhibition will be open to the public until May, 11th (free admission). [Roberta Mutti]
