Design Holding at the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2019

Design Holding, the Group of design excellences created by Investindustrial and the Carlyle Group, made its debut at the Salone del Mobile 2019 in a shared space designed by Calvi Brambilla

B&B ItaliaFlos and Louis Poulsen, which previously acquired other brands, are the three companies that make up the Group. The Group is currently one of the most representative in the field of high-end Italian design, and it includes Louis Poulsen, an important Danish brand with a long history.The Group led by Gabriele Del Torchio, who was appointed as CEO in April 2019, has a portfolio of about 10 excellent brands and companies in the fields of furniture, lighting, kitchenSalone del Mobile.Milano 2019: the boothDesign Holding booth at Milan Salone del Mobile 2019, in the S. Project area, was divided into three separate areas – B&B Italia, Flos and Louis Poulsen. A long corridor with interactive walls by Dotdotdot, showed the history of the companies belonging to the Group through their most important products and some italian design icons. The three brands presented new products and reissued items in a homogenous narration that combined past and present highlighting the design excellence of the three companies.The Salone 2019 saw the return of B&B Italia to the pavilions of Rho-Fieramilano after several years of absence. During the last edition the company presented new products by Michael AnastassiadesAntonio CitterioPiero Lissoni and Vincent Van Duysen, in addition to the new edition of the Catilina chair, designed by Luigi Caccia Dominioni for Azucena.

Also Flos celebrated its past launching the re-edition of the Chiara lamp by Mario Bellini, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, and releasing the first edition of the Bulbo lamp, designed in 1957 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. In addition to them, Flos presented the new products of the collections Flos Home, Architectural and Outdoor designed by Michael Anastassiades, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Antonio Citterio, Formafantasma, Piero Lissoni, Nendo, Philippe Starck and Patricia Urquiola. Louis Poulsen, alongside its historical collections, presented a number of new products, including OE Quasi, a project by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson. OE Quasi is an exercise in geometry and poetry at the same time. A polycarbonate dodecahedron (a polyhedron with 12 faces and 20 vertices) is inserted into an aluminum icosahedron (20 faces and 12 vertices), emitting a homogeneous LED light. The artist’s experimentation is perceived as a shape that changes according to the viewer’s point of view.Design Holding was among the most important exhibitors in the new S. Project area, created this year by Salone del Mobile.Milano to give room to companies especially focused on contract and large-scale projects. [Roberta Mutti]
