Or rather, Stefano Boeri will be the curator of a special event, which will not be Salone del Mobile.Milano as it has been scheduled for 2022
This is what we can be deduce from yesterday’s press release by Salone del Mobile.Milano. Which explains: “The architect Stefano Boeri has been announced as the curator of the special 2021 Event under the banner of the Salone del Mobile.Milano. Mr Boeri will be assisted by a team of young internationally renowned architects and professionals.” And it goes on: “The spaces and thematic pathways conceived by the team of international curators will dialogue in an original and dynamic way with the new Salone del Mobile.Milano digital platform which – following the launch, slated for June – will truly come into its own during the special 2021 event. The six days in September will thus be a major hub of innovation ahead of the 60th edition of the Salone scheduled for April 2022.”
Note: 2021 marks the 60th anniversary of the Salone del Mobile, but the 60th edition will be held in 2022. In 1990, due to the realignment of Fieramilano’s calendars, the Salone skipped a year and, of course, it skipped 2020 as well.

The format of the event, however, raises some questions. In the press release we also read that the event will be “a unique project in terms of format and artistic concept, geared not just to the world of sectoral professionals and to the international design community, but also to the general consumer public who, for the first time, will have access to the fairgrounds for the entire duration of the event. As well as the opportunity to admire the latest products and creations issued by the brands over the last 18 months, there will also be a chance for visitors to purchase goods showcased by the companies at exclusive prices at the Rho fairgrounds. Part of the profits will go to a charitable cause.”
This is everything we know currently. And that “the event, the name of which will shortly be unveiled, will be a one-off occasion on the international furnishing and design scene thanks to an exhibition that will allow the companies to present the very best products that have emerged over the last year and a half, in a highly emotional and scenographic setting.”
Looking forward to hearing more, we can confirm that the SaloneSatellite will be held as part of the overall 2021 concept.
Moreover, there will be many Fuorisalone events, including DDN Hub, Superdesign Show, Palazzo Litta Design Variations, and other events to join.
