A new creative director for Sutherland Furniture

US-based outdoor furniture company Sutherland Furniture has appointed Eugeni Quitllet as creative director. The Catalan designer, named Designer of the Year at Maison & Objet 2016, will oversee product development for Sutherland.

Blessed with an interesting vision for furniture design, Quitllet is the creative force behind the development of iconic pieces such as Philippe Starck’s Masters Chair for Kartell and Vondom’s Love Series. Philippe Starck’s Robinwood collection for Sutherland in 2009 was a big hit; there, too, Eugeni was integral to its success. Throughout his career, Eugeni has also collaborated on widely acclaimed products with brands such as Roche Bobois, Christofle, Foscarini, Driade, and Dedon.

Quitllet’s first creation for Sutherland is the Monaco chair, currently in production, whose launch is scheduled for spring-summer 2023. Monaco is made of ocean plastic and Sutherland’s teak. Eugeni Quitllet’s new approach for Sutherland Furniture is in fact based on sustainability, combined with design research for timeless objects.
