HOST&HOME and the companies participating in the Salone del Mobile 2023

HOST&HOME promotes Thai design at the Salone del Mobile 2023 with an exhibition curated by internationally renowned Italian designer Matteo Ragni

The HOST&HOME project was established in 2015 by the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce Thailand. This initiative was created to promote Thai design and support local entrepreneurs working in the hospitality sector in Italy and Europe.

Thai design takes center stage at the Salone del Mobile 2023

For the Salone del Mobile 2023, HOST&HOME will present New Natural Landscape, an exhibition dedicated to Thai design (pav. 18, stand D01). Its curator will be Matteo Ragni, an internationally renowned Italian designer who has won numerous awards and prizes. In addition to being in charge of the exhibition concept, Ragni has supervised the design of some new products and advised companies on how to modify existing products to meet the demands of the European market.

New Natural Landscape will showcase the essence of Thai design within an imaginary forest. It will display products that pay great attention to the use of natural materials, colors, traditional techniques and craftsmanship, while keeping in mind the idea of industrial reproducibility, in line with the demands of the global market.

Thai brands on display

DEESAWAT is an outdoor furniture brand established in 1972 specializing in teak wood products. It designs versatile furniture collections – including flooring, doors and custom items – that can be customized to meet different tastes and needs. On display at HOST&HOME are three sustainable collections: UP LAMP, designed by Nakarin Kamseela; Green Partition, room dividers designed by Ratthee Phaisanchotsiri; Parallel Collection, consisting of a bench and table made from recycled doors and frames, also in teak. The latter collection has been awarded the DEmark Award by the Department of lnternational Trade Promotion (Thailand), the G-Mark Award by the Japan lnstitute of Design Promotion, and the GoldenPin Award, the most influential design award in the global Huaren market (China).

UP LAMP, Deesawat

Kenkoonex was the first company to introduce Thai outdoor furniture to the international market, especially Sweden, in the late 1990s. The company specializes in designing nautical accessories and furniture for luxury resorts and hotels, combining teak wood with stainless steel. Over the years, the company has perfected its know-how and designed high-quality indoor and outdoor furniture that is now available in Europe, Australia, and North America. Kenkoon collections by Kenkoonex have also received numerous awards including the Design Excellence Awards from Elle Decoration Magazine in the Furniture, Bathroom and Young Talent categories; Outstanding Outdoor furniture Awards from DEP (Department of Export Promotion), which is currently named DITP; Best Outdoor Accessories Design Award from International Casual Furniture Fair (Chicago, USA) and the Best Designer Award in Furniture Design from Silpakorn University.

Founded in 2004, Kun Decorate is a brand that produces high-quality and durable stainless-steel and aluminum products that are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Established in 2016 by Asia Collection Co. Ltd., Masaya specializes in casting and working brass to make sculptures and garden decorations. It produces handcrafted brass furniture with a contemporary design with the lost-wax casting method, an age-old technique that makes it possible to create objects with organic shapes. This process must be carried out by hand and requires meticulous attention and great skill. Therefore, craftsmanship and skills, passed down from generation to generation, are the pride of this company. Masaya has participated in international events such as London Design Week, New York Design Pier, Hong Kong Design Pier, and has won numerous awards and prizes in Asia and Europe.

Established in 1992, Mobella manufactures high-quality custom furniture and upholstered furniture for both private residences and public spaces. What characterizes its products is the workmanship brough about by skilled Thai artisans. Present throughout the world, Japan, Europe and the Middle East, Mobella offers armchairs, beds, sofas and decorative accessories that are perfect for any interior design style.

Moonler produces high-quality Chamchuri wood furniture. The company was founded in 2008 by engineer Phuwanat Damrongporn and artist Sarawut Sakthamcharoen. The company can rely on state-of-the-art tools and machines for heat treatment, wood and metal processing, and eco-friendly painting. It also collaborates with local and international designers, relying on skilled local carpenters and craftspeople to make its products.

Performax has been making furniture using bamboo, wood, and water hyacinth, a floating aquatic plant, since 1995. In particular, their water hyacinth is well protected from fungal and insect attack with a non-toxic, environmentally friendly chemical treatment. With their elegance and close connection to nature, Performax’s collections perfectly represent the beauty of rural Thailand.

Founded in 1986, Prempracha’s Collection is an international leader in ceramic art and design. With an international design and development team and the hard work of talented local artisans and skilled staff, the brand offers one-of-a-kind products including tableware, vases, decorative objects, and garden accessories. The company makes its stoneware using only locally sourced red and black clay. The factory also specializes in both mold-making and hand-forming and has an innovative glazing department with spaces dedicated to hand carving and painting.

Prempracha’s Collection

Sculpture by Boonchucaroenkit was created in 1999 by Nuttapong Charoenkitivarakorn, the well-known designer of Seat Belt, the chair featured in the cult American film Hunger Games. The brand’s collections combine ancient Thai craftsmanship with modern eco-friendly design.

100% non-toxic and eco-friendly, all T-Thaniya products are created and painted by skilled Thai artisans. T-Thaniya candles, in particular, are made from high-quality raw materials including natural Thai jasmine rice, essential oil and other floral fragrances. Moreover, when the candles melt, the wax can be used for pleasant relaxing body massages.

Touchable by Able Interior Workshop combines the meticulous work of skilled Thai master artisans with the modern talents of experienced local and international designers. Shapes and colors make each collection unique and suitable for private homes, hotels and public spaces. Able Interior Workshop participates in numerous international events and fairs such as Bangkok International Gift Exhibition, Salone del Mobile.Milano, and Maison&Objet in Paris.

Last but not least, among the exhibitors at Host&Home will be The Carpet Maker, a company specializing in indoor and outdoor carpets, founded in 1986. These carpets are made from high-quality acrylic, which makes them strong, resistant to UV rays and weather. Each model is available in 33 colors and several sizes. The Carpet Maker blends traditional Thai weaving with the latest innovative techniques. The MONSILK carpet, for example, is made of 100% recycled polyester from plastic bottles.
