Intermission by NØDE
NØDE is a design studio that produces metal furnishings and products for interiors in Cape Town, combining industrial design with modern manufacturing techniques. Designed by Charles Haupt and Gerrit Giebel, the bench consists of a single 20 mm thick aluminum piece, heat treated to several hundred degrees Celsius and hand-carved. An 80 ton press was used to bend the two sides.
Orrery by MAK
Orrery is a kinetic chandelier in anodized aluminum with hand-blown lampshades. MAK, Southern Guild’s in-house design label, made it in collaboration with NØDE, drawing inspiration from the mechanical models that illustrate the motion of the planets in the solar system. The barrel hinges positioned on each arm of the chandelier allow for several configurations.
