A new interior design project under the banner of continuity for the 28 Posti restaurant in Milan, by Cristina Celestino
The 28 Posti restaurant has been on the Milanese scene since 2015, as a project in collaboration with the Bollate prison, engaging inmates in construction works. Five years later, it was time to revamp its image with a new interior design project. Cristina Celestino, architect and designer, designed the new interiors, preserving the same convivial spirit of the origins.
This small restaurant by the Navigli channels, with only 28 seats, relies on materials, textures and colors to create a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Its colors are inspired by nature and the chosen materials are natural as well. Wood, terracotta, natural waxed iron establish a balanced dialogue with the desaturated blue, earthy wine and white walls.
On the ceiling original and restored wooden beams alternate with areas painted in desaturated light blue. Terracotta panels by Fornace Brioni partially cover the walls, while raw earth plaster by Matteo Brioni reaches the ceiling. In the middle of the restaurant, the main star is the original brick partition of the pre-existing building. Finally, also the wall that separates chef Marco Ambrosini’s kitchen is in natural plaster.

A storage cabinet, placed under the arch designed by the central partition, has a front in terracotta micro-mosaic, and harmonizes with the curved sheets that enclose it, and with the other materials. The furniture is completed by an upholstered bench, bespoke tables and Fratina chairs by Billiani.
The 28 Posti restaurant is illuminated by Tempo Andante ceiling lamps, created by artist Arturo Alvarez with micro-perforated sheet metal. Apparently as light as paper, seen up close, these lamps reveal accurate workmanship. In short, Cristina Celestino has managed to preserve the informal and convivial atmosphere of the origins, thanks to a wise use of materials and colors. [Txt Anguilla Segura]
