Abitzai, the premium brand of Ceramica Mediterranea, embodies the essence and soul of Italian style
Since 2001, Ceramica Mediterranea has stood for research, innovation, and sustainability. Founded through the visionary entrepreneurial spirit of Bernhard and Claudia Mazohl, the company transformed the historic factory in Guspini, in Southern Sardinia, into a benchmark in the Made in Italy ceramics sector, blending artisanal quality with eco-sustainable technologies. As the only Italian stoneware producer operating with zero-mile supply chains, the company reinforced its commitment in 2017 with the launch of the Ceramica Mediterranea – Ceramica KM Zero brand, which emphasizes the use of local raw materials in low environmental impact production processes.

Abitzai: Mediterranean identity between culture and design
Launched in 2021, Abitzai — the company’s premium brand — embodies the essence of Italian style and Mediterranean soul. Its name, derived from ancient Sardinian dialect, means “to keep alight, to enliven, to sow.” A manifesto of intent expressed through sophisticated design collections, far from fleeting trends yet deeply rooted in the island’s traditions and landscapes.
The Mediterranean is not just a sea, but a cradle of civilizations — a crossroads of cultures and histories woven together over centuries. It’s more than a geographic space; it’s a philosophy of connection, a way of thinking. Abitzai draws on this heritage, transforming it into evocative surfaces that speak of history, art, mystery, and nature.

Abitzai collections express the beauty and essence of their place of origin. Vivid colors, sinuous lines, and insular geometries characterize each creation. Essentzia celebrates the island’s cultural and artisanal richness with earthy colors and symbolic patterns; Serrenti reinterprets trachyte, an ancient and vibrant stone, turning it into modern, understated textures; Reflex combines the rawness of earth with the brilliance of metal, resulting in minimalist, elegant surfaces. Naes is an homage to Sa bèrtula, the traditional shepherds’ satchel carried during transhumance — a personal, unique item, just like this collection, composed of varied modules that can be combined into nearly unrepeatable compositions. Inspired by traditional Sardinian weaving, Tessiri transforms geometric and floral motifs into a new decorative language. Nues, inspired by clouds, offers soft, enveloping surfaces, while ITE, rooted in Sardinia’s mining history, explores the mesmerizing geometries of minerals. Lastly, Heth, another new addition to the Abitzai line, celebrates the beauty and symbolic power of the octagon and its captivating geometry.

At Fuorisalone 2025: Abitzai presents the new collection, Origini
Origini is the new collection Abitzai unveiled at Fuorisalone 2025. Once again, it’s a tribute to Mediterranean roots — a place of encounters, exchanges, and stories intertwined over time, “where modernity can learn the meaning of limits, where the desire for the infinite meets the measure of man,” as sociologist Franco Cassano wrote.
“With Origini, we tell an original story, made of ancient symbols and signs from our ancestors that become fertile ground for imagination,” explained Claudia Mazohl. “Through the two collections, Areale and Tibula, we offer a contemporary language that transcends formal conventions. Signs and new material surfaces blend perception and mirage, landscapes suspended between appearance and memory.”
Areale is distinguished by a fluid web of signs and symbols oscillating between reality and imagination, while Tibula evokes the ancient city at Sardinia’s northern tip — a crossroads of civilizations and tales. The Origini decorations, born of a refined balance between tradition and innovation, result from combining colored glazes and precious metals on a solid porcelain stoneware base. The surfaces gain depth and richness through light interplay and chromatic contrasts — ranging from warm neutrals to sea green, earthy terracotta to volcanic anthracite. The collection comes in two formats: full-field on 60×120 tiles and semi-field with vertical cut, making it ideal for contemporary architectural spaces, completed with base tiles in natural shades.
With Origini, Abitzai brings to life a collection that is both a story and a living material — a celebration of the Mediterranean that continues to narrate its history through ceramic design and art, transformed into refined surfaces, born from the earth and shaped by innovation, ready to enhance spaces with timeless elegance. A tribute to uniqueness, memory, and the beauty of difference.
