Excellence, luxury, eroticism, and contrast meet in Sicily for a must-see event connecting history to the future
If you love design that dares to push boundaries, surprises the senses, and isn’t afraid to blend the opulence of the past with visions of the future, there is only one place you need to be very soon. From June 4 to 7, 2026, the magical atmosphere of Ragusa Ibla (a well-deserved UNESCO World Heritage site) will provide the backdrop for Barocco & Neobarocco 2026 – 6th Edition, the multidisciplinary festival redefining the boundaries of contemporary creativity.
Under the artistic direction of architect Roberto Semprini, the event will shine a spotlight on spectacular installations spanning architecture, art, fashion, photography, and design. The great news? While the festival’s peak days take place in early June, the indoor exhibitions inside historic palaces will remain open until June 28, while the outdoor installations can be visited until September 30.

The Concept: Rebirth, Materials, and Heritage Stories
Every year, this event outdoes itself. For the 6th Edition of Barocco & Neobarocco, the focus shifts to a fascinating theme: “Rebirth: The Age of Materials in the Architecture of Historic Centers.” This title pays homage to the historic rebirth of the Val di Noto following the devastating earthquake of 1693—an era that famously transformed destruction into the late-Baroque marvels we admire today.
This year, the festival has teamed up with top-tier local companies specializing in regional materials: pitch stone, lava stone, granite, and marble. The goal? To merge traditional craftsmanship with innovation and sustainability, proving that to design the future, one must deeply understand the past.
Next-generation talent will also play a pivotal role. Students from Milan’s Brera Academy of Fine Arts will showcase their design projects, while students from IULM University will manage the communications, experiencing an incredible artist residency right in Ragusa. Additionally, every evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the San Vincenzo Ferreri Auditorium will host talks featuring major names in architecture and art.

Your Exhibition Guide: Palace by Palace
Here is what awaits you as you wander through the rooms of historic Baroque palaces, reinterpreted for the occasion with high-impact, theatrical staging.
Palazzo della Cancelleria
- Codex Animae: At the entrance, you will be greeted by an ironic invasion of “puppets” created by Beatrice Rizzardo.
- Alongside her, explore the works of Alessandro Trambaioli, presented by the Piano Alto Gallery in Noto.
Palazzo Cosentini (Ground Floor and First Floor)
This palace is a goldmine of visual stimuli:
- Signature Design: At the entrance stands the stunning Borromini chaise longue (designed by Roberto Semprini for Made IN) based on the double Baroque spiral, alongside the sensual Vongola Verace seat for Ceramiche Carella, which plays with Bernini-inspired chiaroscuro contrasts.
- International Artists: Discover the 3D craftsmanship of Santina Bonini’s frames, the glass and brass robots of Alessandro Trambaioli, the chromatic fairy tales of Gesine Arps, and the poetic projects in Korean lacquer and glass by Yong Nam Kim.
- Big Names and Opulence: On the first floor, ceramics by fashion designer Antonio Marras shine (featuring his Abissi and Gli Dei series), alongside the majestic stainless-steel mirror sculpture by Wu Wei, emotional canvases by Francky Criquet, and the pop-infused Opulence photography project by Carlo Coniglio.
Palazzo La Rocca
- Sogno di un pomeriggio neobarocco (A Neobaroque Afternoon’s Dream): Interior designer Carlotta Oddone breaks the formal rules of hosting, transforming the palace hall into a surreal dining theater featuring a low-to-the-ground table, deep velvets, and zoomorphic figures.
- Femina: Artist and influencer Simona Bertolotto (Sissiottostyle) presents a highly theatrical installation: eight jackets suspended in mid-air like a contemporary chandelier, revealing the images on their backs only as you move through the space. This space also hosts a dialogue with works by Ilde Barone and the evocative photographic overlays of Anna Maria Colace.

Must-See Urban Installations and Live Performances
The festival refuses to be confined within palace walls, spilling out to invade the city streets:
- Salita Duomo di San Giorgio: Designer Carlo Coniglio returns to amaze by decorating the steps of the famous historic staircase.
- San Vincenzo Ferreri Auditorium: Alongside conferences and a photography exhibition by the Ragusa Architects Foundation, visitors can witness sculptor Enzo Cicciarella execute a live stone-carving performance, sponsored by Nero Sicilia. Meanwhile, architect Gaetano Manganello (Studio Architrend Architecture) will debut an imposing stone installation right in front of the church.
Barocco & Neobarocco 2026 promises to be an invaluable opportunity to view design and architecture from a fresh perspective—where history is not a dusty museum archive but a living material waiting to be shaped. Whether you are a designer seeking inspiration or simply a lover of beauty and culture, strolling through the palaces of Ragusa this June offers a unique look at how tradition can seamlessly dialogue with the contemporary world.
