IOC: Privacy in the Office

After years of open-plan and shared spaces, the real luxury in the office is now represented by silence and privacy. IOC, a division of Lema, presents a new project for the contemporary office

Office spaces need new solutions for new habits. The old style hierarchical office design is increasingly less popular and sharing spaces requires furnishings and equipment ensuring privacy for private conversations, meetings or relaxation.

IOC Project Partners, the division of Lema that has been working in the field of office furniture for over 25 years (previously known as International Office Concept), has reinvented itself following a new path that makes it able to carry out complex projects including products designed to meet new needs and technical solutions for specific requests.

At the Salone del Mobile 2019, IOC presented its new project with Raffaella Mangiarotti as art director, who designed some of the first furnishing collections. Ghisolfa includes soundproofing armchairs and sofas that, thanks to their padded high back, allow for quieter spaces, for “muffled” or even private conversations.

The architecture of privacy

Monica Armani, on the other hand, designed Velasca, a “meeting pod”, a self-supporting glass structure that allows you to create closed meeting rooms within larger spaces. Two aluminum ribbons support curved or linear glass sheets; walls can be completely closed with hinged doors, protected with sliding curtains, and the air of the pod can be purified thanks to the sanitizing system used by Lema for wardrobes.

Moreover, the collections include Brera25, a desk system resulting from Gensler design advice, Magenta meeting chairs, Sempione meeting tables, Gioia ottomans, Corvetto side tables, designed by Raffaella Mangiarotti, and many other products. IOC also includes partition walls and screens, which were part of the previous catalogue as well. [Text Roberta Mutti]
