Taj Theog Resort&Spa: a luxury hotel & spa in the heart of the Himalayas
Taj Theog Resort&Spa is located in the periphery of Theog, a town in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Pradeep Sachdeva Design Associates (PSDA) architecture firm was entrusted with the project by Indian Hotels Company Limited. Indian Hotels Company Limited’s first venture in Himachal Pradesh is a five-star resort harmonizing with the rich cultural heritage of the region.

The importance of locally-sourced materials in Studio Lotus’ project for Taj Theog Resort&Spa
Studio Lotus defined the spaces with various types of local wood and stone. The practice also gave a contemporary interpretation to some decorative details commonly found in Theog’s homes. In the lobby, for example, rows of timber spindles are suspended on full-height metal screens that divide the space into two smaller areas. This decorative element placed at the entrance, common to all Himachali homes, is used to welcome guests and create a cozier and more intimate atmosphere.
Furniture and finishes evoke Theog’s history and nature
Taj Theog Resort&Spa is spread across three levels, and features distinctive communal areas. In the dining room, locally-sourced slate and Budhpura stone blend perfectly with the colors of the panoramic view. In the bar, the bright floor and the low-hung roof are reminiscent of a typical restaurant wagon from the colonial era. The restaurant’s wall cladding, on the other hand, evokes the local earthenware tradition. Leisure areas, such as the children’s playroom, are decorated with artwork and paintings depicting past stories of the town of Theog. The corridors leading to the spa are dotted with illustrations of local flora and fauna, and display cases containing pressed and preserved flowers collected from around the site.
