In La Spezia, a frescoed apartment changes its face thanks to Caccaro systems, transforming furniture into functional walls
What happens when past architecture meets the flexibility of modern design? The answer lies in the heart of La Spezia, inside a home that redefines the very concept of living. Architects Roberto and Cristina Tartarini, in close collaboration with Gandolfo Arredamenti, completed a stunning renovation project. The design reinterprets a space with a strong historic identity through a continuous vision, where Caccaro systems become the true protagonists of the space.
The property develops sequentially through four striking rooms with cross vaults that overlook a large private garden. During the renovation work, beautiful original frescoes re-emerged. This discovery guided the architects and clients toward a precise choice: preserve the ancient soul of the house while inserting contemporary elements capable of interacting with history without overpowering it.
An Open Space Without Walls: The Freedhome and Architype Revolution
The real challenge of the project consisted in organizing domestic flows without building traditional walls, which would have broken the beauty of the frescoed vaults. The designers overcame this obstacle by integrating storage and passageways into a single visual flow.
In this context, the Freedhome and Architype Caccaro systems find their ultimate expression. These elements do not simply furnish; they replace masonry walls to create an open and incredibly fluid layout. Furthermore, the light finishes and neutral tones reflect natural light, enhancing the historic details of the ceiling.
The Living and Sleeping Areas: Where the Wardrobe Becomes a Room
In the living room, a bridge composition defines the entrance. A single compact volume concentrates a coat hanger, a cozy niche, and discrete access to the storage room.
The sleeping area revolves around a large double-sided Freedhome structure. This solution configures an equipped corridor that organizes the movement between rooms:
- Total storage: The hinged modules offer extraordinary storage capacity.
- Secret passages: Two Architype doors camouflage among the wardrobe doors, leading directly to the bathroom and the small bedroom.
Bedrooms Combining Functionality and Soft Atmospheres
In the single bedroom, the corridor modules ideally continue into the wardrobe with an integrated TV. On the opposite wall, the system meets the Poly desk to create a practical and geometric study area. A large boiserie paneling embraces the side of the bed, giving visual continuity to the entire environment.
The master bedroom expresses perhaps the pinnacle of this fluid interior design concept. Here, too, the double-sided storage creates a walk-through closet that keeps the perception of the ceiling intact. An Architype door, enriched by shelves in the jambs, opens toward the main bathroom. Finally, the Groove bar completes the room: a minimal graphic sign on the wall that holds books and objects, diffusing a soft light that warms the atmosphere.
This apartment demonstrates that true innovation does not erase the past, but enhances it. Thanks to flexible Caccaro systems, the house becomes a living organism, ready to host contemporary life within an immortal frame.
