Fuorisalone 2023: Brera Design District

The Brera Design Week returns in 2023 with over 349 events and permanent showrooms

The Brera Design District returns in 2023, more vibrant than ever before. Valcucine and Grand Seiko are the main sponsors of this year’s edition, both featuring impressive installations. Valcucine’s presentation, “Ecosophìa,” reflects on the future of kitchen architecture and design in relation to the values of sustainability and innovation. “Eco” represents eco-sustainability, while “Sophìa” represents knowledge. This is also interpreted by students from Domus Academy and ISIA.

Brera Design DistrictGrand Seiko, the official timekeeper of the Brera Design District until 2025, launches the Alive in Time project, a space to rediscover the value of time. The journey through the rooms of the “Grand Seiko House” leads to the revelation of the watch brand’s production, with 14 spectacular windows serving as a backdrop for the presentation of collections. There will also be a temporary store, active from April 17 to 23, created in collaboration with Verga 1947, a partner of the brand.

Trame by Stark, at the Civic Aquarium

The Stark company presents the Trame project at the Civic Aquarium. An interactive visual and sound installation invites visitors to discover how gestures and their relationships can modify the perception of space. The installation is curated by architects Alice Buroni and Gloria Lisi, together with Alex Buroni.

Ingo Maurer at Porta Nuova, Caselli

Ingo Maurer returns to Milan Design Week and chooses the Porta Nuova Caselli for the new installation, which celebrates the new course of the company after the founder’s passing. A carpet about 30 meters long painted with fluorescent colors will cross the arch, on which a structure of cords that supports a material surface will float in the air. The effect will be an explosion of colors, to be experienced both day and night.

Design Variations 2023

Another highly anticipated return to Brera Design Week is Design Variations 2023, the event curated by MoscaPartners. This year, Design Variations is presented in various locations. Here in Brera, it presents Breath, a site-specific installation on the facade of the Circolo Filologico Milanese, a project by the Zaven studio. The installation is a reflection on design in the broadest and most multidisciplinary sense, as a driving force of the economic and social system and a carrier of innovation.
Among the events of Brera Design District, there is also DDN HUB, now in its seventh edition.

Swiss design at House of Switzerland

House of Switzerland Milano is the perfect place to discover the new Swiss design. The collective exhibition “Urgent Legacy” presents the innovative and sustainable responses of emerging designers, independent studios, established brands, and Swiss education and research institutions. House of Switzerland Milano is a project of Presence Switzerland, at the FDFA (Federal Department of Foreign Affairs), and of the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia.

Future Flow by Geberit

Geberit will participate in Fuorisalone 2023 with Future Flow, an exhibition curated by Ferruccio Laviani. On display will be Geberit products that allow for the design of bathroom spaces integrating technological, functional, and aesthetic elements.
