Antonio Rodriguez, designer, talks about the naturalness of marble
Authentic Natural Stone is a living material that is highly appreciated for its thousand possible applications. From architecture to interior design, up to the kitchen, the many variants of stone offer a thousand different interpretations. Marble, granite, travertine and other stones are living materials, which offer multiple possibilities of use and change their appearance depending on the use.
Antonio Rodriguez, designer and partner in Matteo Thun & Partners, praises the naturalness of marble. “Marble is natural, durable and versatile”, says Rodriguez. “Natural and beautiful, marble is a material that lasts over time; just think of the sculptures from ancient Greece. Marble is also an extremely versatile material that can be used for architecture, for example for the façades of churches and palaces. And it is perfect for furniture. Finally, it is very beautiful and very suitable for small objects such as kitchen utensils; the mortar, for example, is a typical marble kitchen tool. A perfect example to describe the versatility of marble is the Alhambra, in Granada, my home town, where marble is used for very large floors as well as the tiniest details of the sculptures.”

“For Italian company Neutra we designed the Duo bathtub, also available in the marble version. I think that marble is perfect for simple forms that do not follow trends precisely because it lasts a long time. And a simple form is even better as it allows the material to express its essence and beauty at its best. The simpler a form is, the more the material acquires a life of its own.”
