Japanese architecture is the topic of the new online meeting in “The Contribution of Women in Contemporary Architecture” series to be held on Thursday, November 24, 2022, 6:00-8:00 pm
After the first nine conferences held in October 2020 (Swiss and Finnish examples), February 2021 (British and Danish examples), November 2021 (Spanish and Chilean examples), March 2022 (Austrian and Canadian examples), and on November 3, 2022, with the Dutch example, the series continues with a meeting dedicated to Japanese architecture, on November 24.
The initiative, promoted by the Foundation of the Order of Architects of the Province of Milan and curated by architect Arianna Callocchia, highlights the role of women in contemporary architecture. It is also an opportunity for dialogue and professional exchange between the Italian and the international world of architecture.
During the online meeting to be held on Thursday, November 24, The Contribution of Women in Contemporary Architecture: The Japanese Example, some projects recently completed in Japan will be illustrated. The speakers will present their approach and their design philosophy with respect to environmental sustainability, technological innovation, renovation of historical buildings, urban redevelopment.
After the welcome remarks by Beatrice Costa, director of the Foundation of the Order of Architects of the Province of Milan, and Yuko Yoshimura, Deputy Consul General of Japan in Milan, the floor will be given to Yuko Nagayama, Yuko Nagayama & Associates (Tokyo), and Naoko Horibe, Horibe Associates (Osaka).

Women’s architecture in Japan
Yuko Nagayama will illustrate some projects recently completed in Japan, such as Showa Women’s University, Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, and A-House – works designed with global changes in mind. Naoko Horibe will present the processes that give rise to minimal and enduring architectural forms – such as conceptual interaction, client requirements, and regulatory restrictions – through five projects, including a residential building that has been recently constructed in Japan. Cassandra Cozza, DAStU, Politecnico di Milano, will moderate the meeting.
The conference is organized with the Patronage of the Order of Architects of the Province of Milan, Italian Council of Architects, Consulate General of Japan in Milan.
